Preparing for your job search is an exciting time but can also be overwhelming if you don’t know where or how to begin. As an MSDS student, you will have access to a range of resources including information on career exploration, self-assessments, career outlook, campus career services, and various job search sites.
Professional Organizations and Networking
Joining Professional Organizations can provide opportunities for mentoring, professional development, networking, and other resources. Networking, or forming connections with other industry professionals, is essential for professional success. As an MSDS student, you may receive guidance related to professional organizations, networking tips, and attending conferences.
Gaining Experience
Begin with the end in mind. It is never too early to consider creative ways to build your professional portfolio and gain experience in the Data Science field. There are many opportunities to participate in throughout your academic journey to immediately apply newly gained knowledge, strengthen existing transferrable skills, and develop new areas of proficiency. During your time in the program, you will participate in a capstone experience, which includes an option for an internship.
Preparing for Graduation & Commencement Information
As you finish up your courses in the MSDS program, the student services team will be happy to assist in connecting you with appropriate campus resources for graduation.
Applying for a Position
Once you have identified positions of interest, it is time to start the application process. As an MSDS student, you will have access to tips for increasing your likelihood of landing your dream job. Some of the resources include information on writing a cover letter, tailoring your resume, and interview etiquette.

Why I chose a career in student affairs
As a college student, I relied heavily on the guidance I received from advisers and other personnel around campus. I noticed how much my experience in school was enhanced from the outstanding support I received. I chose a career in Student Affairs because I wanted to be a part of a highly collaborative setting to assist online students improve their connectedness to their campus and its resources. As an active listener and proactive coach, I hope to make an impact on students’ well-being and ability to succeed.
